Nothing to fear from psychic threat
letters
TRADING Standards bosses are warning people not to fall
for a 'psychic threat' scam contained in a letter being sent to homes in
Lancashire.
Lancashire Trading Standards officers have received a
number of enquiries about the letter which implies that the recipient
must send cash to a clairvoyant or medium to avoid some terrible
misfortune or improve their luck.
The unsolicited letters originate from Switzerland and are personally
addressed to the householder, indicating they need to 'urgently' respond
by sending £17 for the 'help' of a clairvoyant.
Jim Potts, chief Trading Standards officer, said: "These letters are
being widely distributed and are very unpleasant.
"They aim to frighten people into paying money to avoid a perceived
threat.
"These are well-known scams usually operating from overseas aimed at
frightening people into paying money to have curses lifted or even
improve their luck in winning the National Lottery.
"Anyone who does respond will be targeted for further misleading offers
and junk mail by the fraudsters.
"The so-called 'mediums' are fictitious with ever-changing names and
addresses.
"Do not send any money or respond in any way to them."
The advice is to either throw them in the bin or post them to Lancashire
County Council, Trading Standards Service, 58 – 60 Guildhall Street,
Preston PR1 3NU.

Here's one I have actually
received myself today! there's a phone number at the bottom, so I phoned it.
The number appears to be a UK mobile, but it diverts to a foreign country
(unknown) The gentleman I spoke to suggested I send my address details to
him at unitedkingdomlottery@ukselectionwinners.com
and advised me that they have 3 courier options - DHL, Fed Ex and
UPS. He told me that the cheque would need to be insured and that I would
have to pay for the insurance before they could sent it
